Things we would always want to know about a venue are is there a sound limiter? Is there easy access to load in the equipment? Is there plenty of parking. How many plug sockets are at the stage area? Is there a co ordinator or someone we should ask for on arrival? Becca will
always contact the venue on the run up to the day to ask all these questions so don’t worry if you don’t know all the answers, we will have it in hand
Our vocalist Becca will always ask for your wedding planner and venue details when in contact so she can contact them and discuss plans, confirm timings etc
We have a list of trusted and extremely talented musicians that we can call upon if a member of the band is sick. These are musicians with years of experience in the wedding band scene who love what they do and can slot in at a moments notice
Becca our vocalist and Dave our Bassist will usually turn up around 1hr 30 mins before start time to check the space, see how things are running and talk to the co ordinator this way they have a plan and know where everyone and everything is going. The rest of the band will then turn up 1hr before start time, we will load all the gear into the venue and get set up, once set up we will sound check to make sure all levels are good and the sound is right for the room
Becca and Dave will arrive around 6.30 the rest of the band around 7. If we know it’s a difficult load in then we arrive earlier to allow for that and if the venue is further away and a long journey we will always leave earlier to allow for any delays
Ask any musician, they will say they don’t like sound limiters it won’t change the quality of sound but lower levels can change the energy and the feel however as the band it’s our job to make sure we keep the energy up and make up for the lower sound levels by getting people involved and still giving our performance 100%
On the Night
We are usually in black, grey, bits of white and our vocalist is partial to a little bit of sparkle but we like to keep our look clean and cool, we stick to a colour palette but every member has their own style and gets to show that
We have a set that really works and covers all bases, a bit of something for everyone, however sometimes you can see they are loving certain songs and you know you should pull other songs forward. For instance if the crowd are loving a bit of Taylor Swift you wouldn’t head straight into an all out rock song, you’d want to maybe do another girly pop song and slowly build it and progress. You see very quickly in a night what songs the crowd love so we tend to stay in that direction and test the waters with other songs we know are tried and tested
Our first set we slowly build we have a lot of classics and sing alongs, a bit of something for everyone. After the break we start with ceilidh to get everyone moving and on the floor and from there it’s non stop high energy, sing alongs, rock classics and some dance tunes thrown in
We often get requests during the night, if it’s something we know then no problem we will play it, if it’s something we think we could do we will give it a go. If no one knows it then we will politely advise we don’t do it then proceed to play something we think they will appreciate just as much
Our vocalist Becca is very chatty, she will announce what song is coming up and will interact with the crowd getting them hyped up and involved. You will often hear her telling the crowd during Freed from Desire that her only rule is “when I say bounce. We bounce”
We always check in on arrival at a venue so if something is running late or not as planned we are well aware and can keep in the loop with organisers. We will adapt to any situation, changing set times, changing when we take our break and how long we take our break for.
If we are doing our job right the dancefloor should be full all night, however you are going to get dips where people have maybe been on the floor for the first half hour but need to go and get a drink or a few people might drift away after the ceilidh, however by around 11 everyone is on the floor when we ramp up our set and go high energy
When coming to the end and we maybe only have time for a couple of more songs we will ask the guests what song they’d like, is it a bit of Oasis or maybe it’s Tina Turner we will then always end the night on the classic Loch Lomond, we have also been known to give just one more, even if some of the instruments are packed down, If we can make noise, any at all we are doing it
Your Music & Personalisation
We wouldn’t suggest you picking every song as every night is so different and we like to use our experience to read the room and play what we know will get people on the dancefloor and keep them there. If you see some songs on our repertoire that you love and would love to be played, we will add them to our set for the night. It’s your big day and we are there for you.
We ask that couples provide their first dance at least 6 weeks before the big day so we can make sure we have time to learn it and make it as special as it should be. There’s no boundaries when it comes to first dances, choose the song that means something to you, you want Foo Fighters but make it acoustic and slow it down, done. You want Adele but make it a male vocal, done. It’s totally up to you and we will never say no, we will work with you to make it the version you want, your way.
If you want a specific song that’s not in our set, we will always do our best to learn it if we think it’s possible. If we don’t think it’s possible we will always discuss this with you and we can always add it to the playlist to play during the break.
Your wedding reception should be about you. As well as the first dance we often get asked if there can be a father daughter dance, we love these as it’s pretty special. Other parts of the night can be personalised, one of you plays an instrument or sings and would love to do a song with the band? No problem. One of our highlights last year was a groom doing a secret set with the band, he played 3 songs with us on guitar and everyone loved it, especially the bride.
We will call the newlyweds into the room and onto the floor for the first dance, we will always check when they want others to be called up to join them, some people want others up as soon as possible and some people like to leave it a bit longer and enjoy the moment just the two of them.
Extras & Add-ons
Our bass player Dave is also our DJ and all equipment is set up ready so when the band finish he can seamlessly hit play, no dead space and no silence
The Band
You can tell when it’s been a good night, there’s a buzz around the venue. We feed off the crowd so the feeling when it’s a good night is something you can’t describe, it’s a buzz and feeling in the air. People coming up to thank you and say what a great night it was is always a massive thing for us, we love to know we have done our job right. We just played Torrie Barn and the owner asked for a business card to recommend us to couples, when a venue wants to recommend you we take it as high praise and it’s always appreciated
They didn’t expect us to be so interactive, the band are always disappearing off stage to join guests on the dancefloor and get involved
We played a wedding in Nairn last year in a stunning marquee on a country estate, the couple were from London and just lovely. The groom Ally had spoken to us about doing a secret set, just 3 songs, he chose the songs and we added them to the set, we bought an extra guitar along for him and during the second set to everyone’s surprise and shock we called him onto the stage to play, everyone especially the bride Georgia went wild and it was just a great experience to give Ally and a great surprise for everyone. When he finished the small set we started playing holding out for a hero and he jumped off stage and crowd surfed they were an amazing crowd and absolutely wild. People on others shoulders the most out of control ceilidh we’ve ever seen and a jam packed dancefloor. Just made us realise even more how much we love our job, we genuinely believe we have the best job in the world
Ceilidh
Our lead vocalist Becca calls the ceilidh, at the start she will make her way down into the floor and address the room, getting as many people as she can down. She then calls James and Dave down onto the floor and they demonstrate the dance while Becca calls out the instructions. We will then talk through it a few times before we go for it with the music. Becca will continue to call the dance until everyone looks comfortable and knows what they are doing. We encourage everyone to get involved and try to make them as comfortable as possible by making it fun and interactive
Booking & Planning
Around 3 months before your big day Becca will email you to say hi and get some more information, she'll check if you want ceilidh, if you have decided on a first dance, if there’s any songs or artists we should avoid in the set and if there are any you absolutely love and we should definitely include. If you book us short notice, she will email straight away to check all these details. She'll then keep in touch and is available for any queries or questions right up until your big day. She'll then email you the week before to confirm all timings and just reassure you that everything is in hand.
Our lead vocalist Becca handles all correspondence and is available for as little or as much contact as you would like. We correspond by email however we can also arrange zoom calls to discuss everything. Becca is always around to answer any questions or discuss ideas and plans .
We don’t message anyone on the day of your wedding as everyone will be extremely busy but a week before we will email yourselves to confirm timings and first dance etc and a few days before we will email the venue to confirm everything and confirm timings are still the same and going to plan
