FAQs

How much time do you need for setup and soundcheck?

We pride ourselves in being very quick to set up, often helping to claw back some time for your evening reception if the speeches or meal have run over schedule.

This always depends on ease of access to the stage at the venue, but never takes more than an hour. We always aim to arrive at least one hour prior to the scheduled time for your first dance to ensure that we are ready to play for you and your guests.

What are your standard performance times?

The standard performance times tend to be from 8pm until midnight.

How flexible can you be if our timings aren't confirmed yet?

The timings are absolutely negotiable. We would be more than happy to discuss this with you and move things around to suit.

How long is your break, and do you play background music during it?

The evening buffet break ordinarily lasts around half an hour.

We are more than happy to play background music for you at this point, but we're also able to plug a phone/tablet into our PA system with a playlist of your choice if you have something specific that you would like to be played at this point.

Can we pick the songs you'll play on the night?

We welcome song requests and try to play all of your favourite bands and artists throughout the night.

However, we also have almost 15 years of experience in the Scottish wedding scene and pride ourselves in having the experience to know what songs to play to keep everyone on the dance floor for you.

It's easier to decide exactly what song to play in the moment, as opposed to having something set in stone before the night begins. This is something we can work on together with you before the big day.

Will you learn our first dance if you don't already know it?

Absolutely! That's all part of the service. We can also learn any other special songs for you that you may have in mind.

Can you take requests on the night?

We love to take requests and pride ourselves in having a huge repertoire of songs in our catalogue.

However, don't worry about your guests requesting strange songs that nobody will dance to. We will ignore calls for Radiohead and Pink Floyd songs that will kill your dance floor, unless you've specifically asked for these yourselves!

Can you keep the night going if our venue has a 1am licence?

We offer a midnight until 1am DJ set where we can set up a playlist for you that you can choose. Alternately, we can take requests on the night from your guests.

What other add-on options do you offer?

Our lead singer Rico offers various options for daytime entertainment.

Is all the equipment, like PA and lighting, included in your quote?

We provide all equipment needed to entertain you and your guests.

This includes all instruments, lights, amplifiers and a state-of-the-art Bose PA system.

All of our equipment is of the highest quality and is PAT tested and insured. We also carry public liability insurance documentation in case your venue requests this.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We would like to think that we have a very unique sound that sets us apart from other bands in the industry.

We have a piano driven sound that provides a real diversity of styles that allows us to play anything from Frank Sinatra to GBX, whilst also having the guitar to cover the classic rock songs and everything else in-between.

We don't stop at all between songs and pride ourselves in working really hard to keep everybody on the dance floor.

Which artists are you most influenced by?

We love a wide range of music, but the important thing to remember is that it isn't our night.

The focus is on you and your guests and we're well aware that sometimes we have to play songs that aren't our favourites in order to make the night a great one. We probably wouldn't choose to listen to "Sweet Caroline" in the van on the way to your wedding, but if the song is requested and everyone is singing along, we love it for those few minutes because it has made everyone in the room happy!

Can you provide a ceilidh set, how long does it last, and can you call the dances for our guests?

We can provide anywhere from 10 up to 40 minutes of ceilidh music if requested.

We don't play accordions and violins, so we use a pre-recorded backing track for this, and we play along whilst calling the songs and reminding folk of the dance moves. It's always great fun!

What happens from the moment we book you?

The first thing I do when I receive a booking is go straight to the Google calendar to make sure it's there and backed up. I also double check the venue and timings to make sure that there are no mistakes.

How much contact will we have before the wedding, like calls, emails and planning forms?

I handle all correspondence between the band and the couples. It makes everything more simple and leaves less chance of miscommunication. Some couples like to have lots of calls, back and forth before the big day, and others just send through an email confirming their first dance choice. Everyone is different, and it's my job to make you feel relaxed and reassured that we know exactly what you want from us on your wedding day.

How do you prepare our first dance once we've chosen it?

If we don't already know the first dance, then it goes straight onto my "to learn list" on Youtube music. I listen to the song a dozen or so times before sitting down at the piano to pick the best key to suit my voice. I then send the music to the band group chat for the rest of the guys to have a listen and practise before we meet up to rehearse.

What if we ask for a song that's not in your repertoire?

We will always learn a song if it's for a special moment in the evening (first dance, father/daughter dance, etc). We also always try to accommodate other song requests within reason. With over 1000 songs in our repertoire, we often know most of the song requests anyway.

Beyond the first dance, what else can we personalise about the night?

We are always happy to make the experience as bespoke as possible. If you want to change certain aspects of the evening to make things less "traditional", then let us know, and we will always do our best to fulfil that for you.

What venue details should we flag early, like noise limiters, access, stage size or power?

It's rare for us to play at a venue we've not been to before, but on the odd occasion that we play somewhere new to us, it's always helpful to know if there are sound limiters, restricted parking, load-in issues that we should know about.

Do you deal with our venue and planner directly, or does that go through Coast?

We have great relationships with most of the venues, and when it's somewhere we haven't been before, we are happy to liaise with the wedding coordinator beforehand to ensure that everything flows seamlessly on the night.

What do you wear on stage for a wedding?

We don't have "costumes" as such. We all wear a slightly different outfit, but make sure that the dress code is smart and monochromatic.

What happens if a band member is ill on the day, and do you have deps?

With around 1300 weddings under our belts, we're very proud to say that we have thought of every scenario you can imagine to make sure we have backup options, and even backup options for the backup options. We have great relationships with many bands and session musicians who we can call in case of emergency. I'm happy to say that in nearly 20 years of playing at weddings every weekend, we have only needed to call upon emergency cover on a couple of occasions and for very good reason.

Do you check in with us or the venue on the day to confirm timings?

I usually reach out to couples the month before the wedding for a last minute run through of timings and song choices to double check everything is in place for the big day.

What should we expect if we've never booked a live band before?

Know that by choosing a band with our experience, you will be able to look forward to your big day with the reassurance that we have seen every scenario you can imagine play out before. We turn up on time, set up quickly, and do our very best to make sure your guests have the best night. We know exactly how everything works best, and we can call you up for your cake cutting, your first dance, make announcements to make sure everyone is where they need to be for photographs, bouquet tosses, etc. Everything is covered. You can relax and have an amazing night.

What happens when you arrive at the venue, from load-in to soundcheck?

We will always arrive an hour before the scheduled time for your first dance. This gives us more than enough time to set up amplification, lighting and instruments to be ready to call you back in to the room and on to the dance floor for your big moment.

If you start at 8pm, what time do you arrive, and what can change that?

We will always arrive an hour before the scheduled time for your first dance. This gives us more than enough time to set up amplification, lighting and instruments to be ready to call you back into the room and onto the dance floor for your big moment.

How do you approach the start of the evening? Do you call the bride and groom onto the floor? How much of the first dance do you give them before inviting others in, and how do you read when to make that call?

We discuss the exact timings of your first dance with you before the big day. You can have the whole dance for yourselves, or we can call people onto the dance floor to join you at strategic points throughout the song. This is something you can decide. We're always happy to make it run the way you want it to.

How do you decide what to play next, and how do you read the crowd?

We never run through a setlist. Once we have finished the first dance, we burst into something nice and upbeat and endeavour to keep everyone dancing all night. We use our experience of "reading the room" to guess at what we think people will respond best to, and we're almost always right. We also don't leave any gaps between songs. It's a jukebox of hits all night.

How do you build the energy across the evening, and where do breaks fit?

We try to keep the entire night upbeat. If people look like they're needing a little break from the high octane, faster songs, then we will throw in a slow number, but these are usually few and far between. We mostly like to keep the dance floor jumping all night if the crowd are keen.

How do you handle song requests from guests on the night?

We can take requests from guests through text messages that they can send us whilst we're playing from our QR codes on the stage, or they can shout in the ear of one of the band if they want a song played. Don't worry; we won't play requests if they're controversial or if we know they'll kill the vibe. Nobody wants to hear Radiohead or Pink Floyd when they're trying to dance.

How exactly do you perform the ceilidh? Who calls the dances, how do you teach the steps, and how do you get reluctant guests involved?

If some ceilidh songs are requested, we call all of the dances and play drums along to a prerecorded ceilidh music set. We encourage people to join in with the dances and explain the very simple steps. We've had guests from all over the world join in and they almost always manage to learn the dances within a couple of minutes. It's great fun.

How much do you chat with the crowd between songs, and will you make announcements?

We don't do a lot of talking in between songs. We've always found that approach a bit cheesy. We like to leave no gaps and just play great songs all night. We will, of course make any announcements when needed (buffet break, photo booths, first and last dance, etc).

If we've booked your DJ set too, how does the handover work?

We try to make the DJ set seamless. As soon as we've finished our last song with the band, the DJ music starts immediately, and then we can take requests from guests for songs for the agreed time.

What happens if something doesn't go to plan, like a late meal or schedule change?

We're very good at getting set up quickly. If the venue is running a little late, we're always keen to help bring the timings back into alignment if we can.

How do you handle venues with noise limiters or sound restrictions?

We've honestly never had any issues with sound limiters. We're not a band who thinks you need to have "Glastonbury" volumes at your wedding, so we remain respectful of the rules. Most sound limiters aren't too sensitive anyway.

What does the dancefloor look like at 8.30pm, 10pm and 11.30pm?

It depends on the crowd, but we aim to keep the dance floor busy all night. Sometimes it'll be the same from 8pm until midnight, and other times it'll be a little more reserved in the first half of the evening, with everyone then jumping around with their ties tied around their heads come 10pm, and once the alcohol has kicked in. It's our job to read what each individual group of guests is looking for.

How do you close out the night, and is there a go-to finale?

We don't really plan anything, other than the commonly requested "Loch Lomond". If the crowd want "one more tune" we love to give them a big sing-along at the end of the night. This is of course dependent on what the couple have asked for, as they may have a specific idea for how they want the night to finish.

How do you know when it's been a great gig?

If the dancefloor has been busy and everyone is smiling, we know it's been a great night. We've never had a bride and groom tell us otherwise come midnight.

What surprises couples most about the live band experience?

I think couples are often shocked by how many songs we play. We don't leave any gaps, so it's one song after another all night. We can sometimes play 70 songs in a night, which I don't think people expect.

What's your favourite memory from a wedding you've played?

Honestly, there are too many to choose just one. We could make a sitcom out of some of the funny moments over the years. It's such an enjoyable job to do and we don't take it for granted. We love every minute!
